The First Day of School

Well, it's that time of year again!  I've decided, inspired by Pinterest that I WILL blog!  :0)  What better way to start than with the new school year?

So, our poor summer bucket list was a bust.  :0(  For good reason, though!  We are moving.  We have long been in a house WAY too small for our needs.  We will be moving to a much bigger house that will be perfect for us.  It's a fixer upper, and we've been painting and cleaning and sanding and staining and sewing all summer.  We're just about done and ready to move in.  We're looking forward to our annual Labor Day camping trip to have a change to unwind and take a break as a reward for all of our hard work this summer!

We're in 7th, 4th, 3rd, and PK this year.  The kids "rode the bus" to school yesterday!  lol  The transmission went out in my car, so we had to take the bus up to work on the new house, and the kids took their school work with them.  It's been an adventure riding the bus, but the kids have enjoyed it!  I think I'll take some knitting next week.  It's an hour long ride!

I've turned into a HUGE Pinterest junkie.  I've been plotting and planning ideas for the new house and using my family as a taste testing panel.  :0)  Here is the flooring I put in the 1/2 bath downstairs at the new house:

It's from a pin from this page.  I think it looks just like stonework!  I decided not to stain mine, because I tested a patch in the corner where the toilet will be, and I didn't think it added to it, so I just clear coated it.  Mine was a tad darker than theirs anyway, as I used grocery bags instead of contractor's paper.

Bad Blogger!

Well, another year has gone by! lol I plan on staying much more up to date with my blog. I miss blogging. Last year got exciting for us. Thing 1 ended up coming home to do e-school. She could not stand the bullying any longer. The school nurse was calling me once every week or 2, and I had to pick her up. She would have "a stomachache and headache". She's SO much happier at home! We went with Ohio Connections Academy because one of my cousins is a teacher with them. They have a SPECTACULAR curriculum...much better than she was getting at our local public school. In fact, we loved it so much that we're doing it again this year, and we also enrolled Little Dude.  A few months into the year, Thing 2 also was pulled from school. Her teacher just plain old didn't want to help her or listen to our concerns, so her needs are better met where I can give her the support she needs. So, that's right, all 3 of the big kids are now back at home! :0)

Littlest Guy just turned 4 yesterday. He's picking things up well, including letters and counting, so I'm hoping he'll do well when he's of school age. We're pretty confident Thing 2 and Little Dude have dyslexia. They get free tutoring through the e-school this semester, and it has helped them in leaps and bounds! Thing 2 is doing WAY better in comprehension, and spell check has been a godsend for her with her school work. Little Dude can READ! That was a very, very happy day. He also does astonishingly well with mental math, though he can't regurgitate basic addition and subtraction facts to save his life.

The girls are in ballet and will be having their first recital in just over a month! Thing 1 is on cloud 9 and is looking forward to continuing ballet. Thing 2 does NOT like ballet and can't wait for it to be over! lol She just decided this in the past month or so, and recital costumes have already been bought and paid for, so she's going to have to be a trooper and tough it out. She will be taking jazz next fall. Well, that is the nutshell of the crazy last year. I look forward to more actively blogging about the daily grind of e-school with 3 and a preschooler to work with! We've got some fun field trips coming up in the near future, and we'll be getting our summer bucket list written up soon, so stay tuned!

Back at it

So, it's been awhile. Our former adventure in homeschooling ended after a busy spring. Followed by an equally hectic but fun summer vacation. After a brief moment of thinking all 3 of the big kids would be going back to school, situations out of our control led us back to homeschooling Little Dude. That situation being....the schools are convinced he's "too young" even though he falls well within the accepted range. So, we're homeschooling again this year. He hopefully should be ready to go into second grade next year.

We started Monday, the day our local school district started. The girls went into grade 5 at the local middle school and grade 2 at our home elementary. We decided we were done dealing with the uncaring principal at the school we were doing an intradistrict open enrollment to which got our eldest the gifted environment she needed. I am loving walking Thing 2 to school.

So far, we have had a busy week! We started off with the last Garden Center program on Monday, The Harvest. Wednesday, we went on a butterfly hike at the Wilderness Ceneter. Little Dude caught the most butterflies! He was SO excited. Wrapping up our first week back at it tomorrow with a spelling test!

Welcome!

Hi! We recently decided to homeschool our oldest son. I will be documenting our adventures in homeschooling, as well as life at this blog. My kids are never boring. I'll be continuing the Hair Wars saga here. For those who have come over from my craft blog, you know what I mean. For those that haven't...well, The War is still going strong, and you'll be finding out ALL about it soon, I'm sure! lol

Oh, and I knit and crochet. Alot.
